The source quality of "BOCCHI THE ROCK!" is relatively poor, whose bitrate is only 3/4 of the normal BD source. Even worse, the encoding strategy is subpar, resulting in severe DCT noise and blocking in some high-dynamic and complex scenes. The quality of certain scenes is even worse than the Web source. After a thorough analysis of the entire season, we replaced these problematic scenes with those from the Crunchyroll web source. Except for the encoding issues, there are still challenges in the source. The native resolution is 871.0p, with noticeable aliasing, and haloing in the lines. We addressed this with descaling and reconstruction. Although the flat areas are protected by the noise layer, there are still some grain blocking and color banding because of the limited bitrate. We addressed these issues with moderate de-banding and protective measures.
